The Victoria Native Friendship Centre has been in existence for 40 years. We provide services to the estimated 15,000 Aboriginal people living off reserve in the greater Victoria area and southern Vancouver Island, as well as the 5,000 residents of First Nations communities from Sooke to Sidney and as far as Mill Bay. The Centre also provides temporary assistance to a sizeable population of Aboriginal individuals and families from First Nations and urban centres across Canada.
In 2006, the Victoria Native Friendship Centre took possession of a facility, formerly Hampton Elementary School, complete with a 99 year lease with the School Board of British Columbia. The new facilities are 38,000 square feet, and include a gymnasium, amphitheater, outside basketball courts and playground.
Since moving to 231 Regina Avenue, many projects have taken place to enhance the warmth, feel and functionality of the VNFC's new home. We continue to enhance esthetics by doing such things as painting, flooring, Aboriginally designed murals, button blankets and other art. read less
