(CCAS) helps over 900 children, adults and families with mental health problems in its Gaithersburg office and in the community. Our main office serves primarily clients with insurance or Medicaid. Our "office without walls" reaches people outside the mainstream of mental health care by bringing community-based help to them. CCAS goes where people feel safe, and where they're comfortable asking for help. Here's an example of our community work: our therapists see uninsured pregnant women and new mothers in their homes, community centers, and a public health office. We help women like "Maria," a new mother, who is anxious and depressed. Herself abused as a child, Maria is terrified she will repeat this pattern with her baby. Maria's public health nurse, who we've trained to recognize postpartum depression, refers her to us for help. One of our bilingual mental health therapists will provide therapy to Maria in her home and coordinate with the nurse to make sure that Maria and her baby are safe. read less
